Volunteer Title: Newtown Borough Grants Facilitator
Position: The Newtown Borough Grants Facilitator will work with the Newtown Borough Council and relevant borough entities to provide assistance in the identification of, application for and management of grants or other funding with the aim of achieving the goals of Newtown Borough.
Major Responsibilities:
· Create data base of public and private grant resources
· Check grant resources regularly to look for appropriate grant applications and notify the appropriate borough entities regarding upcoming application deadlines
· Work regularly with borough entities (staff, council, consultants, committees and boards) to develop wish list for current and future grant funding needs
· Become familiar with the Newtown Borough Comprehensive Plan with the intention of identifying opportunities for grant funds to achieve the goals of the borough
· Develop a library of prepared narratives for grant applications with content such as borough history, related grant funded projects, comprehensive plan and open space plan goals and objectives
· Assist borough entities with writing grant applications as needed
· Assist borough entities with navigating grant administration and tracking progress including grant closeout and/or renewals
· Evaluate successful and unsuccessful applications to determine factors which may improve success of future applications
· Report semi-annually to Borough Council on grant application activities
· Attend annual state/county workshops on specific grant applications such as DCED, DCNR, CDBG (with approval of Council if reimbursed by the borough)
· Attend workshops/courses/webinars offered on how to write grants as needed (with approval of Council if reimbursed by the borough)
Preferred Background:
· Experience in working with government or non-profit organizations
· Internet research skills
· Writing skills
· Previous grant writing experience
· Organizational skills
· Commitment to position for minimum of 2 years
